Why is it important to highlight Black-owned businesses?
Black history monthis a time to celebrate and promote the history and achievements of black Americans and those of African descent.
According to The Leaf, supporting black owned businessesis not only a means of putting an end to racial injustice but environmental injustices as well. Ending racial and environmental injustices is important because “environmental injustice has a greater impact on low-income communities and communities of color.”
Environmental racism, or the phenomenon where people of color are more likely to be exposed to environmental health problems, is evident throughout the U.S from the contaminated tap water in Flint, Michigan to the frequent location of hazardous waste facilities in BIPOC communities”, points out the NAACP.
Supporting black businesses is a simple way to promote the achievements of black Americans and contribute to uplifting underserved communities.

Tips to organize our life when we’re feeling lost in the clutter: Write Things Down
- We all know someone that remembers every birthday and sends cards for every holiday. It’s not magic and they don’t use memorization. Trying to remember things will not help organize our task list. It’ll only increase mental clutter. First step, find paper (preferably in a Be Rooted Journal) and start creating a weekly plan. Include everything, birthdays, important meetings, kid’s activities, and special things that we tend to forget.
- List those tasks in a weekly calendar/planner
- Highlight the one thing that is a must-do, even if nothing else gets done.
